We are delighted to welcome Andrew Whitehead to our nationwide network as he launches our new etyres Leeds branch.
A former locksmith, Andrew was keen to break into a new career after the economic downturn took its toll on the housing market. “I was looking for a new challenge, but I wasn’t fixed on a particular industry,” he explained. “I wanted a business with good prospects that was a perfect fit for me.
“I had my own locksmith business for many years and really enjoyed it, but when the bottom dropped out of the housing industry the work really dried up and it was no longer giving me the return I wanted.
“I knew I wanted to take on a franchise because of the benefits it would bring, such as an established brand and reputation, but I wasn’t fixed on the industry so I had a good look around at what was available to make sure I made the right choice for me.
“I searched the internet for opportunities and narrowed it down to four potential businesses, but etyres was the one that met all my needs. The price was right; I knew I could do the work; the territory was the perfect size and although selling plays an important role in growing the branch, it doesn’t require cold-calling, which doesn’t appeal to me.
“I already had experience running a business, so I know what to expect with most of the admin work, and I can rely on various head office teams to help with areas that are new to me, like online marketing strategies and VAT returns.” Franchise businesses across the UK have reported record highs in turnover and full time employment, according to the 2013 NatWest British Franchise Association Franchise Survey.
The research, which has analysed the five years since the country entered recession in 2008, shows 20% growth in the sector compared to a 2.5% contraction in the overall economy during the same period. It also reveals that 92% of Franchise Owners reported profitability, including new businesses.
